The College Board is pleased to work with and highlight organizations that are focused on advancing the academic achievement of Latino students.

 

American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE)
AAHHE has been involved in numerous activities with three goals in mind: (1) Increasing the pipeline of Hispanic faculty in higher education; (2) Bringing issues pertinent to Hispanics to the attention of the larger academic community; and (3) Recognizing the achievements and accomplishments of Hispanics as they pertain to our academy.  The organization works collaboratively with all sectors of education, business, industry, as well as community and professional organizations to enhance the educational aspirations and to meet the needs of a significantly increasing Hispanic population.

 

Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators (ALAS)
ALAS is committed to identifying, recruiting, developing and advancing Latino school administrators in order to improve the educational accomplishments of Latino youth.

 

ASPIRA

The ASPIRA Association promotes the empowerment of the Puerto Rican and Latino community by developing and nurturing the leadership, intellectual, and cultural potential of its youth so that they may contribute their skills and dedication to the fullest development of the Puerto Rican and Latino community everywhere.  It is organized in eight states and Puerto Rico and has extensive national presence through its partnerships with hundreds of regional, state and local education CBOs.  It currently serves over 85,000 students each year through ASPIRA Clubs in schools and after-school education and guidance programs.

 

Excelencia in Education
Excelencia in Education aims to accelerate higher education success for Latino students by providing data-driven analysis of the educational status of Latino students and by promoting education policies and institutional practices that support their academic achievement.

 

Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU)
HACU represents more than 400 colleges and universities committed to Hispanic higher education success in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Latin America, Spain and Portugal. HACU fulfills its mission by:  promoting the development of member colleges and universities; improving access to and the quality of post-secondary educational opportunities for Hispanic students; and meeting the needs of business, industry and government through the development and sharing of resources, information and expertise.

 

Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF)
Founded in 1975, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund believes that the country prospers when all Americans have access to the opportunities a college education can afford.  As the nation’s leading Hispanic higher education fund, HSF works to address the financial and cultural barriers that keep many Latinos from earning a college degree.

 

HCF
Founded in 1993, the Hispanic College Fund (HCF) is a national non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C., with a mission to develop the next generation of Hispanic professionals. For 17 years, the Hispanic College Fund has provided educational, scholarship, and mentoring programs to students throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, establishing a career pipeline of talented and career-driven Hispanics.

 

Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF)

Founded in 1968, MALDEF is the nation’s leading Latino legal civil rights organization. Often described as the “law firm of the Latino community”, MALDEF promotes social change through advocacy, communications, community education, and litigation in the areas of education, employment, immigrant rights, and political access.

 

National Association for Bilingual Educators (NABE)
NABE advocates for our nations Bilingual and English Language Learners and families to cultivate a multilingual multicultural society by supporting and promoting policy, programs, pedagogy, research, and professional development that yield academic success, value native language, lead to English proficiency, and respect cultural and linguistic diversity.

 

National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO)
NALEO is the non-partisan leadership organization of the nation's more than 6,000 Latino elected and appointed officials. The NALEO Educational Fund is the nation's leading non-profit organization that facilitates the full participation of Latinos in the American political process, from citizenship to public service.  It achieves its mission through an integrated strategy that includes increasing the effectiveness of Latino policymakers, mobilizing the Latino community to engage in civic life, and promoting policies that advance Latino civic engagement.

 

National Council of La Raza (NCLR)
The National Council of La Raza (NCLR)—the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States—works to improve opportunities for Hispanic Americans.

 

National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL)
Founded in in 1989, NHCSL represents over 300 elected Hispanic State legislators throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.  It serves as a catalyst for joint action on issues of common concern to all segments of the Hispanic community; a forum for information exchange and member networking; an institute for leadership training; a liaison with sister U.S. Hispanic organizations throughout the country; a promoter of public/private partnerships with business and labor; and a partner with Hispanic state or provincial legislators and their associations in Central and South America.

 

White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics (WHIHE)
The commission was tasked with examining the underlying causes of the existing education achievement gap between Hispanic American students and their peers, and issued interim and final reports on the subject.  It is currently focused on engaging Hispanic students, parents, families, organizations and anyone working in or with the education system in communities nationwide as active participants in improving the academic achievement of Hispanic Americans.

 

Univision
Univision’s Es El Momento campaign is focusing on closing the education gap between Hispanic and Non-Hispanic youth by offering U.S. Hispanics motivational encouragement and useful information and by delivering the message that education is critical to success in the U.S.
